The TVSS industry has undergone a number of significant standards changes in recent years, with more on the way. TVSS is a small portion of a construction project and we understand that many of our customers do not have the time to become “TVSS Experts” on their own. To assist our customers in making informed decisions, APT provides the most comprehensive training programs available in the industry.

Professional Engineer PDH’s & CEU’s: APT offers PDH’s qualified & approved by IEEE. In turn, IEEE PDH’s & CEU’s are recognized & accepted by most states including rigorous States of Florida and New York. This course starts with basics and proceeds through advanced topics including UL, IEEE & NEC. Course is Standards-based, not sales-oriented. This course may be the most efficient & comprehensive six hours of TVSS training seminar available. Seasoned engineers appreciate the mix of explaining the science, art and ‘marketing’ surrounding the surge industry. This course is approved for State of Florida PDH’s. Some of the course topics include:

• Explanation of electrical transients – where they come from, what they do
• Technical standards and codes for surge suppression – IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.
• 2005 & 2008 NEC changes addressing TVSS
• Recent UL 1449 changes
• Recommended performance ratings and why
• Myths & realities of TVSS and SPD’s
• Live testing & failure testing demonstrations in UL Qualified Client Test Data Lab

Electrical Contractor Credits: We are gaining approval through the Electrical Council of Florida (ECF) on a course specifically for Florida licensed Electrical Contractor credit. Approval is expected Fall 2008/Winter 2009.

Other learning opportunities: Standards groups such as IEEE, NEMA & UL have annual Spring meetings in the Tampa Bay area to discuss & update surge standards. Interested parties are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings.



Onsite/Online Lunch & Learn
APT Sales Engineers and Sales Managers routinely get out of the office to meet with customers. Lunch & Learn training seminars at your facility are a great way to educate yourself and your associates on any TVSS related topic. We can customize training sessions depending on customer needs and requests. APT provides lunch, or snacks and drinks, depending on the time and length of the training.

We also offer an online Lunch & Learn facilitated through online meeting software such as Go-To-Meeting. The beauty of this type of training is flexibility. We can setup the Lunch & Learn around your group’s busy schedule and since the training is web based other offices can participate as well. APT still provides lunch; the only difference is that the instructor is not in person.

Online Training (Webinars) and Conferencing
APT internet based training and conferencing tools have become the preferred method of interaction for a number of our customers. Online training or conferencing sessions can be set up on short notice and can be used for:

• Consultant Specification Reviews
• Distributor and Contractor Training
• Plan Reviews
• Database Demonstrations

APT offers one hour monthly webinars. To participate in an online training or conferencing session you will need a high speed internet connection, a PC and a telephone. Sign up below and you will receive an email from the APT meeting host that includes a link to the online training site along additional meeting details. The visual portion of the training will be through the use of PowerPoint presentations and/or desktop sharing through the online site. The audio portion of the training will be by telephone, either a direct connection to APT’s factory or via conference call. This system allows multiple people at multiple locations to attend the same training session.

The monthly online webinar covers the following topics:

• Industry standards: UL 1449 2nd, 2.5, and 3rd Editions, IEEE 2002, CEC, CSA 22.2, and NEC 2002 and 2005
